Gardening; Hostas around your pool are not good

When we planted the hosta plants around our pool we thought it was a good idea.  They looked really nice and we didn't have to replant anything the next year.  After about 3 or 4 years they got really big so my husband pulled one and discovered that the roots were starting to grow under the pool and some of the sand came out with the roots.  So to save the pool from damage he has to pull all the hostas from around the pool and either plant them somewhere else or give some away.  From now on we will plant annuals around the pool so the roots don't grow under it.
 A lesson learned.
