Home Life; Fixing the clothes line

You know I like to hang my clothes on the clothes line to dry.  Well, sometimes it needs to be re-tightened and in the process it came apart so my son-in-law had to climb the tree to re-hook it.  I just thought this was a cute picture.

Dessert; Chocolate, Nut Crispy Squares

Copyright by The Old School Housewife
This recipe is courtesy of Ree Drummond.  It's a really good treat for kids and adults.  In my book, it's also healthy because it has cereal in it.  I changed just a few things to make it my own.  No baking involved.  Recipe to follow.  Enjoy!

Food; Peaches for your cereal

Copyright by The Old School Housewife
It's that time of the year when we can get fresh, sweet, juicy peaches.  If you love peaches like I do, then try them in your cereal, it's delicious.  Also a bonus, did you know that peaches were good for your complexion and skin tone?

Gardening; Colorful lilies

Our Lexi decided she wanted to go in the pool, but not get wet. She is a funny girl but this was too funny.  Well, she stayed dry most of the time, but to get off the raft to her dismay she had to get wet.  But it made for cute pictures.

Happenings; 1972 Agnes Flood- The Valley With A Heart

42 years ago one of the worst natural disasters this country has ever seen took place right here in Wyoming Valley.  It was the flood of 1972 from a hurricane called Agnes.  My first born was only 6 months old at the time.  I will never forget that Saturday morning when my husband, baby and I were still asleep and the phone rang and my mother said, "what do you thing about the flood?"  I said, "what flood?"  She told me the whole valley was flooded and when I told my husband, he said, "probably a few cellars."  lol    Well, we got up, had breakfast and my husband went out and came back 15 minutes later and said, "I can't explain it, you have to see it."  So, with baby in arms, there were no laws about car seats at that time, we went for a ride through Main Street, Jenkins Twp. and way before we got to the 8th Street bridge; nothing but water, as far as the eyes could see.  We just stood there with some other people, not even knowing what to say, everyone was just in shock.  And to think all that was going on all night and we knew nothing about it.  Thank God for the strength and heart He gave the people to pull themselves together and start all over.  It never effected us personally but it did thousands of other people.  Wyoming Valley was soon knows as the Valley With A Heart.

Food; Stuffed Peppers

Copyright by The Old School Housewife

I was never really happy with my stuffed peppers because the filling was always sort of hard.  But I wanted to make them for a friend of my and her family because she was just operated on and is home but can't stand up yet and also it's a completely gluten free meal, which is how they eat.
So I called my sister, Joyce

Gardening; First fruits

I went outside early this morning and to my surprise I saw zucchini flowers and a couple of little tomatoes.  There weren't enough flowers to pick and fry but when there is I will show how I cook the zucchini flowers.  Some people even stuff them  I tried that once but they are so delicate that they rip easy and I like them better fried anyhow.

There were three bunnies but I couldn't fit them all in one picture.

Dessert; Nothing fancy, just pretty cupcakes

Copyright by The Old School Housewife

I just made these cupcakes for my family for tomorrow when they all come over.  I know they look ordinary, nothing fancy, but I thought they looked pretty.  No recipe, just a yellow cake mix which I put in some Spring Colored Chocolate Chips and some on top and some have just sprinkles on top and some plain because my husband doesn't like the candies.  The icing is store bought, chocolate whipped icing.

Holidays; Flag Day

Copyright by The Old School Housewife

I love our flag.  It's the flag of the greatest country in the world.  I love what it stands for; peace, freedom, strength and victory.  Our country may have it's faults, but it's still a great country and the only country that God has truly blessed.  Today is Flag Day; so if you have a flag and I hope everyone does, put them out and show them proudly.  GOD BLESS AMERICA!!

My Family; Helping Marinda pack it up.

Copyright by The Old School Housewife

I went over to my daughter, Marinda's house this afternoon to help her pack up the things in her kitchen cabinets.  She and her husband and daughter are moving tomorrow.  This a real chore which Marinda knows only too well.  We counted them, she moved nine times since she moved out of our home.  I hope this is the last time, for her sake, it's no piece of cake.

Nature; Birds love bread

Copyright by The Old School Housewife

Seconds after I threw out this bread, the birds were landing to eat it.  In the second picture, it was a tiny bird trying to pick up a piece of bread bigger then he was.   A larger bird tried to get it off of the smaller bird but was unsuccessful.  It seems that birds like the bread better then the birdseed that I put out.  I love birds.

As you can probably tell, I love flowers.  These flowers may seem ordinary to you but to me they are beautiful.  Summer is almost upon us and the weather may not show it but the flowers do.  I love color and flowers do supply a lot of color.  I thank God who created such beauty for us in this world we live in.
