Remember the song, "Where Have All The Flowers Gone"? Well, you could say the same thing about the fall leaves. Some people just leave them on the grass thinking it will be mulch for the lawn the following spring. We tried that, it doesn't work. We just had to rake them up then. It actually takes years for dead leaves to turn into mulch. I remember when we used to rake the leaves by hand. We used to have a lot more trees then too. The kids used to join in because when we got a big enough pile they used to jump in it. It was fun. Then when the sun started to go down my husband would make piles and burn them. I love the smell of fall leaves burning. But, now with all the ordnances, you can't do that anymore. Also the older the body gets the harder it is to rake them so now we have a leaf blower as you can see in the first picture. Where have all the fall leaves gone? Well in my yard they go behind the swing set or around the edges of the field behind the pool, and that's where they will stay and build up and some day become mulch. |
