Dessert; Flag Cake

Copyright by The Old School Housewife

This is my flag cake which I make every year for the 4th.  It's simply a Jell-O cake with a white cake mix and red and blue Jell-O inside.  Cool Whip and strawberries and blueberries for the flag effect.  I copied off my flag so I would get it right.  This is a large one so I used 2 cake mixes.

Holidays; Happy 4th of July- God Bless America!

Happy 4th of July or Independence Day as it was originally known as, which actually describes the day.  God has truly blessed this country for it's belief in Him.  I wish everyone an enjoyable day. Remember what our flag stands for; victory and freedom from tyranny.  So celebrate and stay safe while shooting off your fireworks.  God Bless America!

Food; Porquetta and the 4th of July just seem to go together

Copyright by The Old School Housewife
I just go finished making my porquetta sandwiches for tomorrow.  I make them every year for the 4th of July.  I have been eating these since I was a little girl when my grandmother made them.  A lot of people eat them hot, which are good too, but our tradition is to eat them cold with an ice cold drink.

Nature; Sunrise with red blotches

I thought the sunrise looked pretty this morning so I took a picture of it and saw these red blotches.  I don't know what they are, but I thought it was interesting.  I didn't take it through the screen, so it wasn't that.  Does anyone know what they could be?

My first zucchini and it's striped!  None of the other zucchini's are striped, I don't know why this one is.  It's fancy and I think it's pretty.  The second picture really shows it up.  From now one I will be getting a lot of zucchini.  I'll have to dig out all my zucchini recipes.

Gardening; Flowers love the heat

The flowers seem to like the hot scorching weather.  Even though we humans faint in it, they flourish.  These flowers didn't look like they were growing until the temperature hit 80 and over.  Now they are all in full bloom.  I love flowers and my husband is gracious enough to plant them for me.

My Family; Twins??

Copyright by The Old School Housewife
They could pass for twins, but in fact they are mother and daughter.  My daughter, Marinda, in yellow and blue and her daughter, Olivia the same age in purple.  They are both 5 years old in their pictures.  They are similar in so many other ways too.  I love these pictures.
